01
Which form of presence should a foreign company use in Azerbaijan?
It depends on what you intend to do here. The choice between a branch, a representative office and a subsidiary affects tax liability, which expenses are deductible, and how profit can be repatriated. VMH advises on the right structure before registration, because a form chosen for speed usually costs more to unwind later than it saved.
02
We have no office in Azerbaijan. Can we still have VAT obligations?
Yes. Foreign companies providing digital services or conducting taxable transactions in Azerbaijan may fall under the electronic VAT registration mechanism regardless of physical presence. Many companies discover this after the liability has accrued. VMH advises on when the obligation applies, handles the registration, and manages ongoing compliance.
03
How do we apply a double taxation treaty correctly?
Azerbaijan has treaties with a wide range of countries, but claiming benefits on dividends, interest, royalties or service fees requires both the treaty text and knowledge of how the Azerbaijan Tax Authority applies it in practice. Incorrectly claimed exemptions are reversed on audit; unclaimed benefits are simply lost.
04
Do you handle transfer pricing?
Yes. Related-party transactions between a foreign parent and its Azerbaijan entity are subject to transfer pricing rules. VMH advises on arm's length documentation requirements, helps structure intercompany arrangements, and prepares the documentation needed to support the pricing used.
05
What does the tax audit cover, and what do we get?
An independent review of one to three years of activity: VAT calculations and credits, profit tax, revenue recognition, deductible expenses, payroll, social insurance contributions, and contracts and banking transactions. You receive a tax risk report, a corrective action plan, an executive summary, an assessment of financial exposure, a tax authority response strategy, and implementation support.
06
We already operate here. Is the audit still relevant?
That is who it is built for. Foreign companies with existing operations often inherit compliance gaps — from the initial setup, from accountants unfamiliar with the full tax picture, or from regulatory changes that were never reflected in filings. The audit identifies what is there before the tax authority does.
07
How does pricing work?
VMH does not publish a fixed price list, because engagements range from a single entry-structure consultation to full ongoing compliance management. Scope is defined before work begins, fees are agreed in advance, and a proposal follows within 48 hours of the initial consultation.
08
Who will we actually be working with?
Every international enquiry is handled directly by the founder or under his personal oversight. The practice is built on more than ten years inside the Azerbaijan Tax Service, which is what informs how positions are structured and how authority interactions are managed.
09
How does VMH use AI?
AI processes documents faster, identifies mismatches more consistently, and structures case information before expert review. It is not a chatbot and it does not replace professional judgment — every output passes through a specialist before it reaches you.
